President
Zak Moore

My wife and I joined the Roanoke Jaycees in July of 2006 and we are having a blast!  We have made some great friends and have been involved with some very rewarding projects.  I was elected to the Board of Directors in November of 2006 and am really looking forward to an active and fun year.  I graduated from JMU in 2002 with a degree in Finance.  I work for State Senator Brandon Bell—who is a former Roanoke Jaycee!  As you can tell from my job, I love politics.  I am also the Chairman of the Roanoke City Republican Committee—but don’t let that scare you off if you are a Democrat!  The Jaycees welcome everyone!  My wife and I love to travel.  I have to say my favorite place that I have visited would be Maine.  We stayed in Bar Harbor in August 2006 and had a wonderful time.  It is a very special place.  That is where this picture was taken.  I’ve really taken an interest in wine and enjoy visiting all the local wineries in the Roanoke Valley.  I will admit that I actually enjoy watching TV.  The Office, My Name is Earl and 24 are some of my favorites.  And yes, I do enjoy American Idol!  I love to read and have actually started an online used book business, which is keeping me busy!  Julie and I were married in October 2005.  We live in Raleigh Court and have a cat named “Madison”.

                             Chairman of the Board

Melissa Oefelein

Hello Everyone!  I am Melissa Oefelein, 2007 president of the Roanoke Jaycees.  I am a Realtor with MKB, REALTORS, serving homebuyers and sellers in the Roanoke Valley and surrounding counties.  I joined the Roanoke Jaycees in 2004 and have served as the 2005 Membership Vice President and 2006 President.  The Roanoke Jaycees…what an organization!  I joined the organization to meet new people and to grow my real estate career.  I didn’t anticipate having the opportunity to network with Jaycees on a State and National Level.  I have met people from many other countries as well!  Not to mention being involved in many community service activities and volunteering to be a tour guide in the Roanoke Haunted House.

My husband is Matt and we have 3 pets, Jackson, Mia and Reece.  My hobbies are fitness, networking, dancing, and singing karaoke.  I coach cheerleading for Roanoke Parks and Rec., and serve on several other committees in  the Roanoke Valley.  My biggest achievement is completing a 31-mile triathlon in September 2005.  My key to success is to treat people how you would like to be treated and always be prepared to listen to others; you never know what you will learn.

Mike Johnson

My name is Mike Johnson and I have been involved in the Roanoke Jaycees since the fall of 2005.   I was actively involved in community service in the Boy Scouts as a young person, later at the College of William and Mary, and continuing into Optometry School.  The grainy photo is from a medical mission to Mexico.  Giving the gift of sight to people who would never have access to eye care is one of the greatest experiences of my life.  The Jaycees has allowed me to continue to give back to the community in my professional career.  It has also allowed me to make friends without influencing too many.   I practice optometry at the Valley View office of Drs Newman, Blackstock, and Associates – “Eye care that does care!”
