Our Commitment to the Community
The Roanoke Jaycees are proud to participate in a number of community
service projects throughout the Roanoke Valley, such as:
-
Camp Virginia
Jaycee
Every year we strive to raise money to financially assist children
and adults with mental retardation so they can attend the camp,
which provides outdoor education and recreation. We have also
participated in the weekly camp dances, which offers the
opportunity
to get to know the campers and help make their camp experience even
more special.
-
Rescue Mission
We volunteer to help serve
food to those living at the Rescue Mission and those who are not
fortunate enough to have a place to call home. In addition, we
assist the kitchen staff in keeping the kitchen and dining area
clean throughout the evening.
New for 2007 - We are participating in the Rescue Mission's Bedtime
Stories Program! Twice a month we volunteer to provide snacks
and read bedtime stories to the kids!
-
Turning Point
Every
other month, a group of Jaycees makes a visit to the
Salvation Army Home for Battered Women and Children to pick up the
children for a night of fun. These children often lack the
opportunity for recreation and need positive role models. We enjoy spending time with the children while playing laser tag, roller skating,
carving pumpkins and participating in many other activities.
Former projects of the Roanoke Jaycees include:
-
Bags & Bears for Foster
Care
-
Distinguished Service
Awards Banquet
-
First Fridays at Five
-
Virginia Museum of
Transportation
This is just a sampling of our monthly and annual community service
projects. The Jaycees are ALWAYS doing something to help our community.
